First release of SPC-Post, which includes the High Resolution Ensemble Forecast (HREF) calibrated thunder and High Resolution Ensemble Forecast (HREF) / Short Range Ensemble Forecast (SREF) severe guidance that has been running locally at Storm Prediction Center (SPC) for years. This release increases the reliability and availability of the guidance, incorporates the guidance into future versions of the National Blend of Models (NBM), and enables the generation of SPC Timing Guidance.

  • Improvement of statistical reliability and skill of probabilistic thunderstorm forecasts (1-h, 4-h, and convective day forecasts through 48-hours)
  • Addition of skillful and reliable severe hazard forecasts for tornado, hail, and wind for the Day 1 period (4-h and convective day forecasts) to the production suite
  • Enable the generation of SPC Timing Guidance (i.e., automated approach to adding temporal information to SPC Convective Outlooks)
