Home > CFS Version 2 (CFSV2) documentation

The CFS version 2 was developed at the Environmental Modeling Center at NCEP. It is a fully coupled model representing the interaction between the Earth's atmosphere, oceans, land and seaice. It became operational at NCEP in March 2011. The following papers document the development of the analysis and model systems used in the operational CFS.

The NCEP Climate Forecast System Reanalysis

Operational Configuration of the CFSv2 for a 24-h Period:
* There are four control runs per day from the 0000, 0600, 1200, and 1800 UTC cycles of the CFSv2 real-time data assimilation system, out to 9 months.
* In addition to the control run of 9 months, there are three additional perturbed runs at 0000 UTC out to one season.
* In addition to the control run of 9 months at the 0600, 1200, and 1800 UTC cycles, there are three additional perturbed runs, out to 45 days.
* There are a total of 16 CFS runs every day, of which four runs go out to 9 months, three runs go out to 1 season, and nine runs go out to 45 days.
